Tour description
Duration: 8 hours
Places you will visit: Pompeii, Vesuvius.
At the entrance to the city of Pompeii, at the gates, the remains of hotels, inns and post stations, which welcomed visitors and merchants, are to be found and, further into the urban centre, shops of all kinds in some cases still decorated by their painted signs, private houses, altars, small chapels, spas and baths (both private and public) and grandiose public buildings. The latter are gathered in three main centres: the Civil Forum, with the temple of Jupiter, the Basilica, the coved market, the building of Eumachia, the Triangular Forum and the district of the theatres, with the ancient Doric temple, the gymnasium, the large and small theatres and finally the Amphitheatre area.
The active volcano Mount Vesuvius is one of the best known landmarks of Campania and more particularly of Naples. It was probably inactive for a long period in ancient times, when it must have had a height of around 2000m and was covered with dense vegetation. It remained quiet until 79 A.D., the years of the famous and catastrophic eruption which buried, together with the inhabitants, extremely flourishing towns such as Pompeii and Herculaneum. Through the natural park is possible to reach the peak of the mount and see an incredible panorama of the Naples Gulf.
At the end of the tour you'll do a beautiful walk through a characteristic vineyard and have a tasting of various typical wines. The Italian wine is famous all over the world for its incredible taste and quality. In fact not all the wine can have the DOCG and DOC certification but in Campania are produced the most important red and white DOCG and DOC wines.
